The fifty-third session of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC-53) and the Associated Sessions of its four Committees will meet in Lima, Peru from 27 November – 2 December 2017. The ITTC is the governing body of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), which provides a framework for tropical timber producer and consumer countries to discuss and develop policies on issues relating to international trade in, and utilization of, tropical timber and the sustainable management of its resource base. Among the issues the ITTC and its associated committees are slated to discuss are: enhancing cooperation between ITTO and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); the ITTO/Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Collaborative Initiative to Conserve Tropical Forests; draft Policy Guidelines for Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering Women; implementation of the ITTO Thematic Programmes; the draft ITTO biennial work programme for 2018-2019; and implementation of ITTC-52 decisions on impairment of ITTO funds. |
