GEF Council members during the 53th GEF Council meeting
The Sixth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and related meetings, will take place from June Saturday, 23 to Friday, 29, June 2018 in Da Nang, Viet Nam. The Assembly will meet on Wednesday, 27 and Thursday, 28 June, preceded by a Civil Society Forum on Tuesday, 26 June, and the 54th GEF Council meeting which will be held from Sunday, 24 to Tuesday, 26 June 2018.
The Assembly is the GEF’s highest governing body which meets every four years, bringing together all 183-member countries, implementing agencies, conventions, civil society organizations and other important stakeholders to share knowledge, insights and solutions to pressing global environmental concerns. This Assembly will launch the Facility’s seventh replenishment cycle (GEF-7).
This year’s Assembly will include high-level statements and panel discussions on:
- Food, Land Use and Restoration;
- Sustainable Cities;
- Blue Economy;
- Partnerships for Implementing the 2030 Agenda;
- Science Based Targets for Earth;
- Circular Economy;
- Marine Plastics;
- Sustainable Forest Management: Lesson from the Amazon and the Congo Basin;
- Preventing a Toxic Legacy: Transforming the Chemicals Industry;
- Wildlife;
- Gender;
- Innovation in Clean Energy;
- Conservation Finance; and
- Sustainable Drylands
The 54th GEF Council Meeting is scheduled to consider, inter alia, the updated Co-Financing Policy; strengthening the GEF Partnership; rules for the System of Transparent Allocation of Resources (STAR) for GEF-7; the GEF Business Plan and Corporate Budget for 2019; the Work Programme; the Implementation Arrangements of the Small Grants Programme for GEF-7; and the Country Support Programme implementation arrangements for GEF-7.
On the last day of the Council Meeting, the 24th Council Meeting of the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF)/ Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF) will also convene.
The Civil Society Forum will meet under the banner “Partnerships for Transformative Change: Civil Society’s Contribution to Transforming Systems to Safeguard the Future of Our Planet," and will prepare a Civil Society Action Plan to be presented to the Assembly.
GEF project site visits have been planned for Friday, 29 June 2018.
