The fifth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES 5) will be held 7-10 March 2017 at the World Conference Centre in Bonn, Germany. It will be preceded by a Stakeholder Day which will provide an opportunity for interested organizations to receive updates on IPBES, discuss their engagement with the IPBES 5 Agenda and prepare positions on key issues.

Under the Platform’s Work Programme, the IPBES Plenary is expected to address the following assessments: methodological assessment regarding diverse conceptualization of multiple values of nature and its benefits; thematic assessment on invasive alien species; and thematic assessment on the sustainable use of biodiversity. The meeting will also consider other issues arising from the Work Programme, including: capacity building; indigenous and local knowledge systems; knowledge and data; policy support tools and methodologies; communication, stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships. The IPBES Plenary will further discuss financial and budgetary arrangements for the Platform; review of the Platform; future sessions of the IPBES Plenary; and institutional arrangements.
