High-Level Consultation on Water in the Post-2015 Development Agenda

The World WantThe High-Level Consultation on Water in the Post-2015 Development Agenda will take place in conjunction with celebrations of International World Water Day from 21-22 March 2013. On 21 March participants will convene in “Wings for Water,” the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Water in the Post-2015 Agenda: Presentation and Discussion of the Results of the Global Thematic Consultation on Water. On March 22 International World Water Day will be celebrated and participants will also convene for the High-Level Consultation on Water in the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

The High-Level Consultation is a component of the post-2015 development agenda consultation process, which was initiated by the United Nations following the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). The post-2015 development agenda consultation is centered around discussions on 11 thematic areas, one of which is water. Led by UN-Water, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UNDepartment of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the Thematic Consultation on Water was launched in November 2012 on the website http://www.worldwewant2015.org/water. Consultations on water sub-themes commenced on 14 January 2013, including on: water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); wastewater management and water quality (WWMWQ); and water resources management (WRM).

The meeting is expected to produce an outcome statement that will contribute to the ongoing post-2015 development agenda process.
