|
On the first day of the second session of the Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), delegates discussed conceptualizing the SDGs and the SDG process. During the morning session, an issue brief on conceptual issues by the UN Technical Support Team was introduced, followed by statements by member states. In the afternoon, an interactive discussion was led by a panel consisting of experts from the Overseas Development Institute, London, and the New School, New York.
During the day’s discussion, delegates highlighted the need for, inter alia: more clarity on the relationship between the SDGs and the post-2015 development agenda; an inclusive, transparent and open process; the need for stronger scientific input; and finding ways to agree on a universally applicable set of goals, which can take into account national circumstances.
