The UN Conference for Sustainable Development (UNCSD) Subregional Preparatory Committee for the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, and South China Sea (AIMS) Countries, convened for its second and final day in Mahe, Seychelles, on Friday 8 July.   

During the morning session participants discussed opportunities and challenges to moving transitioning to a green economy, and the blue economy in relation to the green economy. Participants also discussed emerging issues facing AIMS SIDS and partnerships. Participants also continued consideration of the institutional framework for sustainable development, and heard presentations on improved coordination and networking among SIDS.

During the afternoon session participants heard an Indian Ocean Commission presentation on the concept of AIMSnet. In the late afternoon participants considered the report of the meeting and outcome document. Participants adopted recommendations including on the blue-green economy and strengthening the regional institutional framework for sustainable development, through building on the work of the Indian Ocean Commission and developing links with regional UN entities. These recommendations will form the AIMS inputs in preparation for the UNCSD in June 2012.

The meeting closed at 6:23pm.

IISD RS will be producing a summary report of the meeting, which will be available on this site by Monday, 11 July 2011.
