SMALL ISLANDS STATES CONFERENCE:

The first preparatory meeting of the Global Conference on the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States will be held in New York from 30 August to 10 September 1993. This Conference is scheduled for 25 April to 6 May 1994 in Bridgetown, Barbados. While it does not specifically address the issue of high seas fisheries, the Conference will tackle the related problems of coastal communities and traditional fisheries likely to be affected by the outcome of this Conference. Look for possible work at this PrepCom on the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fishing, regarding the integration of fisheries within coastal management.
