XI. REGIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND TECHNICAL COOPERATION:

This chapter concentrates on the role that UN and non-UN regional organizations can play in assisting SIDS at the national level in instituting and implementing regional programmes, and coordinating projects and assistance. Most of the recommendations are for regional action, and these include: improve coordination among regional bodies for the sustainable development of SIDS; formulate regional programmes and strategies jointly between regional bodies and national authorities; develop a SIDS technical assistance programme; establish and support regional sustainable development centers; draft model environmental provisions as a guide for countries; prepare environmental law training manuals; and conduct regional and in-country workshops on environmental law and the implications of international environmental instruments.
