Bonn Climate Change Conference - June 2014

The Bonn Climate Change Conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) continued on Friday, 13 June. The Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) convened in the morning in a contact group to continue discussions on workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition) and intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), as well as to address other issues.

On workstream 2, the ADP contact group emphasized the importance of workstream 2 for engendering trust under workstream 1 (2015 agreement) and considered the Thematic Expert Meetings (TEMs), including the ones held in March 2014 on renewable energy and energy efficiency, and the TEMs held during this session on urban environments and land use. On INDCs, the ADP contact group discussed the definition and scope of INDCs, ex ante and/or ex post review or assessment, and the timeline and information required for submission of INDCs. On other issues, the contact group explored the entire cycle of future contributions and commitments under the new agreement, including assessment and review, duration of these cycles and compliance.

The Durban Forum on Capacity Building convened in the afternoon,with participants sharing experiences, best practices and lessons learned regarding the implementation of capacity-building activities in developing countries. A number of informal consultations and contact groups under the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) also took place throughout the day.
