Negotiations Bog Down at UNFF8

On Wednesday, 29 April, delegates to the eighth session of the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF8) met throughout the day in two groups: Working Group I discussed forests in a changing environment; and a contact group addressed financing for sustainable forest management (SFM). The contact group reconvened in the evening.

The Williamsburg Bridge is visible in the distance from the UN cafeteria.
Symbolism for Negotiators

L: The architecture of the UN public lobby features curved edges. Is there a straight path between where you are and where you want to be?

R: A sign at First Avenue and 44th Street requires walking and not walking at the same time. Can you move forward while going nowhere?

Uruguay's Daniel San Roman wisely used field glasses to keep track of bracketed text from the back of the room, but agreement on a way forward remained out of sight.
