on the Environment (AMCEN-12)

7-12 June 2008 | Johannesburg, South Africa

Highlights for Monday, 9 June 2008
Sunset at the closure of the expert segment.
The expert group segment of the twelfth session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN-12) reconvened in three working groups addressing climate change, the draft indicative work programme (2009–2010), and policy related matters. In the afternoon, the expert group met in plenary to consider working group reports, the draft indicative work programme, and the draft Johannesburg Declaration, and agree on draft decisions to forward to the ministerial segment. The experts segment of the first extraordinary meeting of the contracting parties to the Convention for the Cooperation in the Protection and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the West and Central African Region (the Abidjan Convention) was also held in Johannesburg today. The experts at that meeting heard presentations and considered draft decisions on the revitalization of the Abidjan Convention.
