The fourth Africa Carbon Forum opened today at the United Nations Conference Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Forum is a trade fair and knowledge-sharing event focusing on carbon investments in Africa. It provides a platform for discussions regarding the latest developments in the carbon market and to identify means by which the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and other mitigation mechanisms can be successfully applied in Africa. Today’s sessions consisted of opening ceremonies, including the launch of the CDM Loan Scheme, Plenary sessions focusing on the Durban Platform and the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, a Round Table discussion on Program of Activities (PoAs) and scaled-up mitigation actions, a Workshop on CDM standardized baselines, Policy Dialogue sessions on the impact of the CDM in Africa and CDM governance, and Training Sessions on accessing the CDM Loan Scheme and reporting on co-benefits.
