Highlights for Friday, 21 September 2012
SAICM
ICCM-3 reconvened on Friday, 21 September in Nairobi, Kenya for the last day of negotiations. Delegates gathered in morning plenary to hear: updates on progress in the two contact groups on emerging policies and on financial and technical resources for implementation as well as the Budget Group; and address the agenda items on the scheduling of ICCM-4, election of the ICCM-4 Bureau members and the report of the Credentials Committee.

Following the updates and the election of the members of the Bureau for ICCM-4, plenary was adjourned at 11.30am to allow the two contact groups and the budget group to further consider their deliberations.

5.15pm – Plenary reconvenes for the closing session.

6pm – The contact group on financial and technical resources for implementation reconvenes for final discussions.

6.16pm – The contact group on financial and technical resources for implementation reaches an agreement on the extension of the QSP to ICCM 4, and acknowledges that SAICM should be an integral part of the long-term financing, as described in the UNEP ED’s proposal.

9.22pm - Deliberations on the adoption of the meeting report continue in plenary. 10.06pm - President Peitz gavelled the meeting to a close.
