Twenty-fifth Meeting of the Animals Committee (AC 25) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

18-22 July 2011 | Geneva, Switzerland

Highlights for Friday, 22 July 2011
CITESOn Friday AC 25 successfully completed the week's agenda. The Committee met in plenary throughout the day and agreed to working group recommendations on: IPBES; ranching; the periodic review; the review of significant trade; sharks; snakes; tortoises and turtles; and sturgeons.

On snakes, the Committee debated whether the working group recommendation to encourage parties to establish conservative quotas should concern all snakes or only CITES-listed species, agreeing on the latter. On sharks, the Committee further discussed how the questionnaire complements ongoing FAO information-gathering efforts and decided to amend its content. After agreeing to meet in March 2012 for the next meeting of the AC (in Geneva, Switzerland) and joint AC/PC meeting (in Dublin, Ireland), the Committee heard closing remarks from John Scanlon, CITES Secretary-General. AC Chair Ibero Solana drew his inaugural meeting as AC Chair to a close at 6:28 pm.
