On Wednesday, participants continued meeting in working groups. Three new groups met: on periodic review, production systems and captive breeding. The working group on periodic review discussed the format of the review and the process for selection of species. The working group on captive breeding considered a stand-alone resolution that would address compliance measures on captive breeding. The working group on the evaluation of the review of significant trade agreed to remove the polar bear from the review of significant trade process.
In the afternoon, participants convened in plenary where the chairs of the 10 working groups gave an update on the status of their work, noting that they will report their final recommendations in the meeting’s final plenary on Thursday, 3 September.
In plenary, participants also discussed: cooperation with other biodiversity-related multilateral environmental agreements, including the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem services (IPBES), capacity-building, review of identification and guidance material, identification of sturgeons and paddlefish speciments in trade, and regional cooperation on the management of and trade in the queen conch.
