UNFCCC Workshop on Methodological Issues relating to Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries

The UNFCCC workshop on methodological issues relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (also referred to as REDD) is taking place from 25–27 June 2008 at the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan.

The workshop is part of a programme of work undertaken by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) in 2008 on methodological issues related to a range of policy approaches and positive incentives for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries.

Methodological issues being addressed at the workshop include demonstration of reductions in emissions from deforestation, reference emissions levels, estimation and demonstration of reductions in emissions from forest degradation, and implications of national and subnational approaches and related displacement of emissions.
Outcomes of the work on methodological issues, including any recommendations on possible methodological approaches, will be reported to the COP at its fourteenth session by SBSTA 29.
