28th Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies and Sessions of the AWGs

Highlights from Friday, 13 June

6:00 pm local time, Bonn, Germany

SBI, SBSTA CONCLUDE THEIR WORK AS BONN CLIMATE TALKS END

The Bonn climate change talks have concluded with the closing of the SBI plenary. The SBSTA plenary closed earlier on Friday, with the SBSTA adopting its report and concluding its work shortly after midday. The AWG-LCA and AWG-KP concluded their work on Thursday evening.
The opening of the final SBI plenary was delayed slightly due to negotiations on the second review of the Kyoto Protocol under Article 9 lasting until Friday afternoon. The review will take place at COP/MOP 4 in Poznan, Poland, and negotiations on the preparations continued through Thursday night, Friday morning and into Friday afternoon. However, a compromise was eventually agreed during informal consultations facilitated by Ana Maria Kleymeyer (Argentina) and Adrian Macey (New Zealand).
Closing the SBI session, Chair Asadi said he was generally pleased with the outcomes from Bonn and emphasized that there is no alternative to multilateralism and finding “common solutions to common problems.” He declared the meeting closed at 5:34 pm.
