Tenth Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) Dialogue on Forests, Governance and Climate Change

7-8 September 2011 | The Hague, Netherlands

Highlights for Thursday, 8 September 2011
RRI

On the morning of Thursday, 8 September 2011, the 10th RRI Dialogue engaged in a participatory session on “Thinking long-term and fostering complementary actions.” Participants envisioned optimistic solutions for 2020 and brainstormed individual actions to reach these goals. The closing panel examined “Emerging Common Approaches and Ways Forward.” The panel reviewed approaches that received support over the course of the Dialogue including the need for: ideas ready to be implemented “off the shelf,” building new coalitions; strong narratives to frame the climate change; agriculture and food security discourse; and a rethinking of global and national institutions to address global challenges. Participants stressed the need for governments to learn from private sector processes, address long-term issues beyond the election cycle timeframe, and work to catalogue success stories that can be scaled-up. The meeting closed at 1:42 pm.
