Fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Fifth Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP 15 and COP/MOP 5)

UNFCCC COP 15Summary of the Meeting

During the COP/MOP closing plenary, parties decided, inter alia, to extend the mandate of the AWG-KP, requesting it to deliver the results of its work for adoption by COP/MOP 6. The COP agreed to extend the AWG-LCA's mandate and continue its work with a view to presenting the results to COP 16. The COP 15 also adopted a decision taking note of the Copenhagen Accord. The conference came to a close at 3:36 pm on Saturday, 19 December.

Thursday, 17 December
 

On Thursday, the high-level segment continued with statements by Heads of State and heads of delegations. On Thursday morning, the COP and COP/MOP plenaries convened. In the afternoon and late evening, contact group meetings and drafting groups took place under the COP and COP/MOP.

Wednesday, 16 December
 

On Wednesday morning, the COP/MOP plenary convened, followed by the opening of the high-level segment. The high-level segment continued into the evening with a number of Heads of State, Heads of Government and Ministers delivering national statements. Under the COP/MOP, contact groups on joint implementation and the CDM also took place in the afternoon and evening. The COP plenary took place in the evening.

On Tuesday evening, the welcoming ceremony of the high-level segment took place. Late at night, the closing plenaries of the AWG-LCA and AWG-KP convened. Throughout the day, contact groups and informal consultations were held on a range of issues, including potential consequences and other issues under the AWG-KP, long-term cooperative action under the AWG-LCA and the Adaptation Fund Board under the COP/MOP.
