Summary
On Wednesday, 25 October 2017, the thirteenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee (CRC-13) of the Rotterdam Convention Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade met for a third day at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), Rome, Italy.
In plenary in the morning, CRC-13 adopted decisions recommending the listing of acetochlor and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD), and adopted a draft decision and rationale for mirex.
The Committee then considered notifications of final regulatory actions for perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), its salts and perfluorooctane sulfonyl fluoride (PFOSF); triazophos, and atrazine. They also reviewed proposals for the inclusion of lambda-cyhalothrin emulsifiable concentrate (EC) 50 g/L; lambda-cyhalothrin capsule suspension (CS) 50 g/L as severely hazardous pesticide formulations (SHPFs) in Annex III.
They heard a report from the Friends of the Chair group on the timing of the final regulatory action on phorate in Brazil, and established a contact group to develop the rationale on phorate. Rounding off the day, the Committee discussed updating the CRC Handbook of Working Procedures and Policy Guidance.
The contact group on phorate met in the evening.
IISD Reporting Services, through its Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) Meeting Coverage, provided daily web highlights and a summary and analysis report from CRC-13. The summary and analysis report is now available in HTML and PDF.
