Summary
On Thursday, the forty-fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-44) convened for its final day. In the morning, the IPCC adopted several decisions, including on the Workshop on Climate Change and Cities, the IPCC Scholarship Programme, the Outline of Methodology Report to Refine the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National GHG Inventories, and the Special Report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above preindustrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways, in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to eradicate poverty. The Panel also discussed and adopted a decision on procedures related to conflict of interest.
In the afternoon, the Panel adopted decisions on programme of work and budget, communications for the sixth assessment report (AR6), and the future of the Task Group on Data and Scenario Support for Impact and Climate Analysis (TGICA). Panel members also discussed the scoping process for AR6.
Closing the meeting, IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee said the spirit of compromise and collaboration inspired him with hope that the IPCC will be able to deliver a set of strong, policy-relevant assessments in this assessment cycle. IPCC-44 closed at 5:42 pm.
