Mozaharul Alam, Head, Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) Secretariat, and Regional Coordinator, Climate Change Programme, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), welcomed participants to the fourth day of the Forum. Desiree Llanos Dee, Co-Founder of Tofu Creatives, presented a visual summary of the third day of the Forum.

Participants joined a plenary session on “Technologies and Practices,” followed by parallel sessions on “Inclusive Community-focused Adaptation Efforts for Sustained Resilience and Development,” “Building Community Resilience by Scaling up Women’s Access to Technologies and Strengthening Voice and Leadership,” “Harnessing Climate Technologies and Practices to Strengthen Nature-based Resilience,” and “Taking Climate Resilient Economic Development to Scale Through Technology and Practice.”

Key messages from these sessions include:

  • Considerations, knowledge and capacity building are important to scale up technologies;
  • Growth should be decoupled from impacts on nature through behavioral changes and use of technologies that are inclusive and designed in the context of appropriate social dimensions;
  • Women need an enabling environment to thrive;
  • Social and gender exclusion are primary drivers of inequality;
  • When women are economically empowered, social empowerment almost always follows;

Following the end of the day’s programme, participants joined a session on “Filling the Adaptation Gap,” which showcased two flagship reports on adaptation, providing an overview of ongoing adaptation efforts and available options to fill  remaining gaps in the Asia-Pacific region.
