Highlights for the Second Session of the Assembly of the
International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) - 14 Jan 2012

The second session of the IRENA Assembly opened on Saturday, 14 January 2012. Over 750 delegates from 73 member States, 50 signatories and states in accession, 13 other non-member states, and 70 observer organizations participated. Participants were presented with the Annual Report of the Director-General for 2011, as well as other reports related to the year’s events, and began discussions on the Proposed Work Programme and Budget for 2012. In the afternoon, a Ministerial Roundtable on the Proposed Medium-Term Strategy of IRENA was held. At the day’s end, economist Jeremy Rifkin presented on the “Third Industrial Revolution.” The Assembly will continue to discuss these and other issues on Sunday, 15 January 2012.
