On Thursday morning, 16 July 2009, OEWG-29 began discussions on the environmentally sound destruction of banks of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) and on high global warming potential (GWP) alternatives to ODS, including on proposed amendments to the Protocol on these issues submitted by Mauritius and the Federated States of Micronesia. After a general exchange of views, delegates formed contact groups to continue detailed discussion.
During the afternoon plenary session, delegates considered a submission by Brazil, on behalf of GRULAC, on institutional strengthening, as well as a submission from Sweden, on behalf of the EU, on the treatment of stockpiled ODS relative to compliance. Delegates agreed to continue discussions informally.
The contact group on matters related to CFC-based MDIs met in the morning to continue its work. |
