The thirty-fifth session of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 35) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer opened in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday, 22 April 2015. OEWG 35 adopted the provisional agenda (UNEP/OzL.Pro.WG.1/35/1) and addressed the organization of work. The Scientific Assessment Panel (SAP) provided delegates with an overview of the abundance, trends and projections of HFCs in the atmosphere and their implications, and the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) offered an overview of HFC production and consumption patterns and trends.

OEWG 35 then examined the response to MOP decision XXVI/9, including a presentation from TEAP on its preparations of a report on alternatives to ODS, and a summary of the Workshop on HFC Management (UNEP/OzL.Pro.WG.1/35/5) presented by rapporteurs Karin Shepardson and Stephan Sicars.

OEWG 35 ended the day with a debate regarding synergies with the UNFCCC, followed by an initial discussion on possible policy objectives for any HFC management policy and legal framework under the Montreal Protocol.

IISD Reporting Services has provided a summary and analysis from the 2nd Workshop on Hydrofluorocarbon Management and the 35th Meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, in HTML and HTML.
