Amina J. Mohammed, UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Post-2015 Development Planning

2015 Time for Global Action Agenda for People and for Planet On Tuesday, delegates resumed discussions in the third session of negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda at UN Headquarters in New York, US, focusing on indicators to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets.

Co-facilitator Macharia Kamau outlined the need for the meeting to provide clear guidance to the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC) on how it should proceed with the task of defining an indicators framework. He reminded Member States they will need to suggest how this work, scheduled for conclusion in March 2016, can be overseen once the mandate of the current intergovernmental process draws to a close after its July 2015 negotiation.

In the morning, delegates debated whether the development of indicators is primarily a technical task, or a political one. Many delegates underscored the importance of drawing on disaggregated data so as to discern the true situation of vulnerable groups such as migrants, children, indigenous peoples, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

In the afternoon, delegates heard presentations on national approaches to implementation in Togo, Colombia, the Netherlands and Myanmar. Delegates followed up with comments on their own experiences of implementing sustainable development approaches.
