Highlights for Tuesday, 17 June 2014

|
 On Tuesday, the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals continued consideration of the “zero draft” of the goals and their potential targets. Informal discussions commenced by finishing consideration of proposed goal 9 (Promote sustainable industrialization). Throughout the day, delegates also expressed their views on the targets under proposed goal 10 (Reduce inequality within and among countries) and proposed goal 11 (Build inclusive, safe and sustainable cities and human settlements). They began consideration of proposed goal 12 (Promote sustainable consumption and production patterns) and will resume with this goal on Wednesday morning.
An evening session was held to hear preliminary views on a revised list of targets under proposed goal 1 (End poverty [and reduce inequality] in all its dimensions everywhere), which the Co-Chairs – Macharia Kamau, Permanent Representative of Kenya, and Csaba Kőrösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary – put together following last week’s informal-informal discussions. Delegates expressed some concern about the method of work. Some delegates wanted to see all of the revised goals together rather than one revised goal at a time, and suggested completing the informal consideration of the entire zero draft, before moving forward.
