Delegates convened for the final day of the Ministerial Segment of the Africa Regional Preparatory meeting for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20) on Tuesday, 25 October 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In the morning, delegates took part in a Ministerial Dialogue on the Means of Implementation. Delegates heard interventions from government, civil society and the private sector. They noted the importance of innovative financing for sustainable development, the need to involve the private sector in the Rio+20 negotiations, the importance of mainstreaming indigenous knowledge systems for bridging the implementation gap, and the opportunities that waste management can provide in a green economy.

In the afternoon, delegates considered the draft Africa Consensus Statement to Rio+20, decided on the way forward and heard closing statements. On the Consensus Statement, delegates noted that issues such as piracy, human trafficking, climate change and rapid urbanization. They called for defining green economy as a tool for achieving sustainable development, establishing, reviving and strengthening sustainable development policies and councils as well as clear and actionable indicator frameworks for sustainable development at the national level.
