On Friday, the ministerial plenary on the SDGs and post-2015 development agenda, including SCP, continued. The COW completed its work and approved outstanding decisions. The closing UNEA plenary convened in the afternoon. Delegates adopted two decisions and 14 resolutions on, inter alia: strengthening the role of the UNEP in promoting air quality; the Science-Policy Interface; Ecosystem-based Adaptation; Implementation of Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development; Illegal Trade in Wildlife; Chemicals and Waste; and Marine Debris and Microplastics.

Addressing delegates, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said "the message is clear: protecting humanity's life support system is integral to sustainable development and a duty for all."

Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, observed that work on the SDGs will add clarity, precision and broad expertise to the new global framework for sustainable development.

During the evening, the Ministerial Outcome Document of UNEA of UNEP was adopted. However, several member states requested that the meeting report reflect their reservations concerning the document.

UNEA President Oyun Sanjaasuren gaveled the meeting to a close at 11:00pm.
