ADP 2-6The sixth part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-6) under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) opened on Monday, 20 October, in Bonn, Germany.

An opening plenary took place in the morning and afternoon to outline the organization of work for the meeting and hear country group and observer organization opening statements. In the afternoon, the contact group on ADP item 3 met to discuss workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition).

In the evening, the UNFCCC Secretariat held an information event on the outcomes of the UN Climate Summit.

On Tuesday, the contact group on ADP item 3 took place throughout the day, addressing workstream 1 (2015 agreement), with a focus on adaptation and finance. In the afternoon, during discussions on finance in the 2015 agreement, the contact group heard updates on progress by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Standing Committee on Finance (SCF). A Technical Expert Meeting (TEM) on carbon capture use and storage (CCUS) addressed carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the morning, and carbon capture and use (CCU) in the afternoon. In the evening, the Co-Chairs held a special event with observers to present concrete ideas and proposals on the roles that non-state actors could play in catalyzing action to enhance pre-2020 ambition effectively and in designing the 2015 agreement.

On Wednesday, the contact group on ADP item 3 addressed workstream 1 (2015 agreement), with a focus on finance and intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs). A technical expert meeting (TEM) on action on non-CO2 greenhouse gases, including methane, nitrous oxide and fluorinated gases, was held throughout the day.

Thursday, 23 October 2014

On Thursday, the contact group on ADP item 3 convened into the afternoon, addressing workstream 1 (2015 agreement), with a focus on intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs). A briefing on cooperation and support for domestic preparations for INDCs was held at lunchtime.

In the afternoon, an ADP stocktaking meeting assessed progress to date, and a follow up to the technical expert meetings (TEMs) on unlocking mitigation opportunities through renewable energy deployment, energy efficiency, cities and land-use improvements in the pre-2020 period was held.

The contact group on ADP item 3 addressed workstream 2 (pre-2020 ambition), and workstream 1 (2015 agreement), with a focus on capacity building, technology transfer and transparency, throughout the day. Delegates also heard a report on the informal consultations on adaptation.

The contact group on ADP item 3 addressed workstream 1 (2015 agreement), with a focus on mitigation, cycle and other issues. During the contact group, SBSTA Chair Emmanuel Dlamini, Swaziland, provided an update on the 2013-2015 review.

The closing plenary convened at 5:34 PM. Parties agreed to hold two additional meetings in 2015, including one from 8-13 February 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland. Parties then presented their closing statements.

ADP Co-Chair Artur Runge-Metzger suspended the second session of the ADP at 6:41 PM.
