A view of Rome near FAO

The sixth session of the Governing Body (GB 6) of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) will be held from 5-9 October 2015, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) in Rome, Italy. It will be preceded by the fourth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group to Enhance the Functioning of the Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing, which will be held on 2 October, and possibly continue during the GB session; an information event on the outcomes of the Working Group during the biennium, to be held on 3 October; a special event on farmers’ rights under the ITPGRFA, to be held also on 3 October; and two days of regional consultations.

The meeting will address a series of items related to the operations of the Treaty’s Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing, including on enhancement of implementation, as well as the Funding Strategy, the Global Information System, compliance, farmers’ rights and sustainable use of plant genetic resources. It will also consider matters related to cooperation with other international instruments and organizations, and administrative and budgetary items.
