Sixth Meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC6) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

Highlights for Monday, 11 October 2010
The sixth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC-6) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) opened on Monday, 11 October in Geneva, Switzerland.

Donald Cooper, Executive Secretary of the Stockholm Convention, opened the meeting. After adopting the agenda and agreeing on the organization of work, POPRC considered: operational issues, Basel Convention technical guidelines on new POPs, intersessional work on substitutions and alternatives, a report on the outcomes of activities undertaken for the effective participation of parties in the Committee’s work, and work programmes on new POPs. The Committee also began deliberation on the draft risk management evaluation on endosulfan, with Ricardo Barra (Chile) presenting the document prepared by the intersessional working group. Contact groups on work programmes on new POPs and on the draft risk management on endosulfan were scheduled to meet on Monday evening.

Participants at POPRC-6 met throughout the day at Geneva’s International Conference Center.
