Sixth Meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC6) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)

Highlights for Tuesday, 12 October 2010
POPRC-6 met in morning and evening plenary sessions on Tuesday and addressed several agenda items, including effective participation by parties in the work of the POPRC, conflict of interest procedures, and the Basel Convention technical guidelines on POPs. The Committee also began consideration of the draft risk profiles on hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) and short-chained chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs).

In the afternoon, contact groups on the endosulfan draft risk management evaluation and the work programmes on new POPs continued their deliberation. Friends of the Chair groups on effective participation in the POPRC and on PFOS alternatives also met on Tuesday. Following the closing of the evening plenary at 7:00 pm, participants met in evening contact groups on endosulfan and on new POPs.
At lunch time, participants attended a presentation on HBCD research, including abstracts presented in September at Dioxin 2010 (the 30th International Symposium on Halogenated POPs).
Peter Dawson (New Zealand) introduced the draft risk profile on HBCD.
Ricardo Barra (Chile) reported to the evening plenary on progress made in the contact group on endosulfan.
Mohammed Yadallee (Mauritius) introduced the draft risk profile on SCCPs.
