Twenty-sixth Meeting of the Animals Committee (AC26), Joint Meeting of the Animals and Plants Committees and Twentieth Meeting of the Plants Committee (PC20) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)

15-20 March 2012, 22-24 March 2012 and 26-30 March 2012 | Geneva, Switzerland and Dublin, Ireland
Highlights for Friday, 23 March 2012
On Friday, the joint AC26/PC20 meeting continued discussions in four working groups on: IPBES, evaluation of RST, NDFs and Transport. The working groups on IPBES and RST completed their discussions in the morning. The IPBES working group discussed communication and collaboration between CITES and IPBES, noting that CITES is both a provider of information and a beneficiary of information. The working group on the evaluation of RST concluded its consideration of: the findings of the report by TRAFFIC presented in  AC26/PC20 Doc. 7;  instructions for the advisory group on the evaluation of RST for its meeting in June 2012 in Vilm, Germany; and a roadmap for completing the evaluation of RST until COP17.

The NDF working group reviewed the draft resolution on NDFs line-by-line. The group discussed the need to reflect in the text the challenge for Scientific Authorities to determine whether a particular export would be detrimental to the species. Participants in the group also discussed language recognizing that a great variety of taxa and life forms of Appendices species have common and differentiated requirements.

Finally they considered and agreed to elements of a NDF, including consideration of: species biology, range, population structure, species-specific levels of harvest, management measures in place and levels of compliance.  The working group Chair announced that the group would complete its discussions on the draft resolution on Saturday morning.
High-altitude non-detriment findings.
