	Twentieth Anniversary of the IPCC celebrated!

	On Wednesday IPCC began elections for the Bureau, with ballots cast for several Working Group co-chair and vice-chair positions. Elections will continue on Thursday. The Panel also considered future activities of the IPCC. Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Chair of the Task Force to consider future activities of the IPCC established by IPCC Chair Pachauri at IPCC-28 and consisting of China, Morocco, the Netherlands, Uganda, the US, Belgium, Pachauri, and the IPCC Secretariat, presented an interim report from the Task Force. Ypersele explained the group had structured the issues on three axis: future challenges; methods and procedures; and subjects to be emphasized in the AR5. Yppersele said another interim report will be prepared for the Bureau Meeting and a final report will be presented at IPCC-30. The IPCC also considered a proposal by Norway and the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) to prepare a Special Report on managing risks of extreme events to advance climate change adaptation. The IPCC agreed to hold a scoping meeting on the issue. Richard Moss, Co-Chair of the Steering Committee on New Scenarios, informed on progress on new emissions scenarios. He said that the work was still ongoing on the lowest radiative forcing pathway and that scenarios are expected to be transferred to climate modeling as well as impacts, adaptation and vulnerability communities in December 2008.
