|
 IPCC WG II opened today in Yokohama, Japan, to approve line-by-line the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) and accept the underlying assessment of scientific literature of the second part of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) addressing climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability.
During the opening ceremony, statements were made by IPCC Rajendra Pachauri, Japanese Environment Minister Nobuteru Ishihara, and WG II Co-Chairs Christopher Field and Vicente Barros. Video-recorded messages were provided by Jeremiah Lengoasa, Deputy Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Achim Steiner, Executive Director of UN Environment Programme, and Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) .
WG II then began discussing the draft text, approving some of the introductory paragraphs.
