 The Fourth International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change – organized by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Tanzania’s Environment Protection Management Services (EPMS) and the Ring Alliance – held its opening plenary session in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Wednesday, 24 February 2010.
Participants heard opening remarks from Saleemul Huq, IIED, Louise Chamberlain, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Richard Muyungi, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) focal point for Tanzania, before breaking into parallel thematic sessions on strengthening institutions for community-based adaptation, water, building adaptive capacity, and insurance and microfinance.
In the afternoon, participants met in a session on policy linkages, and to hear reports from two days of field trips that took place in Tanzania before the start of the conference.
