Summary
On Tuesday, 3 May 2016, delegates to the first meeting of the CBD Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI) continued to discuss the review of progress towards Aichi target 16 on the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing. In the morning, delegates also tackled: assessment and review of effectiveness of the Cartagena Protocol and the mid-term evaluation of its strategic plan; and biodiversity mainstreaming, with a Friends of the Chair group established on the latter.
In the afternoon, SBI 1 delegates addressed: resource mobilization; guidance to the financial mechanism, including a preliminary draft report from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and a report of the expert team on a full assessment of the funds needed for the implementation of the Convention and its protocols for the GEF seventh replenishment; and capacity building, technical and scientific cooperation, and technology transfer.
