Highlights for Wednesday, 7 May 2014
.
Delegates at OWG 11 presented their comments on four focus areas: energy; economic growth, employment and infrastructure; industrialization and promoting equality among nations; and sustainable cities and human settlements.
OWG-11On the third day of OWG 11, delegates presented their views on four focus areas: energy; economic growth, employment and infrastructure; industrialization and promoting equality among nations; and sustainable cities and human settlements.

Comments on many of the focus areas suggested additional references to women. Some delegates preferred to divide the focus area on economic growth, employment and infrastructure, with suggestions to combine the infrastructure element with industrialization or sustainable cities. Some governments wanted issues of equality, industrialization, and cities to be addressed through targets in other areas, although they remained open to potential specific goals. Delegates noted that the “equality among nations” element of the industrialization focus area was not represented in any targets, and some suggested that inequality should comprise its own focus area.

In order to hear all statements on these topics, the morning and afternoon sessions each were extended by an hour. At the close of the day, OWG Co-Chair Kamau noted that, even with the extended discussions each day, the meeting is a half-day behind schedule. On Thursday morning, the OWG will discuss the focus areas on Sustainable Consumption and Production, and Climate Change.
Delegates from the constituency group of Mexico and Peru consult.
Delegates from Greece and Finland listen to statements.
Josefina Bunge, Argentina, addresses OWG-11.
