|
 The UN General Assembly’s Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) opened its 13th and final session at UN Headquarters in New York on Monday, 14 July 2014.
OWG-13 follows three days of informal-informal consultations that were held on 9-11 July. In those consultations, the Group reviewed proposed SDGs 1-11, as contained in the revised zero draft of the SDGs (see http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/focussdgs.html)
OWG-13 opened with a brief formal session to hear general statements from delegations, who expressed support for the process. The OWG then reverted to an informal session. During the course of day and evening sessions, delegates commented on the following proposed goals:
 12: Promote sustainable consumption and production patterns
13: Tackle climate change and its impacts
14: Conserve and promote sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources.
15: Protect and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, halt desertification, land degradation and biodiversity loss
Co-Chairs Macharia Kamau, Permanent Representative of Kenya, and Csaba Kőrösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary, announced that it was their plan for the Group to conclude its consideration of the remaining proposed goals in the revised zero draft, beginning with the remaining speakers on proposed goal 15, followed by proposed goals 16 and 17, on Tuesday and consider a final draft beginning on Wednesday, in order to finalize the report to the UN General Assembly by Friday, 18 July.
