 The UN General Assembly’s Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) continued its 13th session at UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, 15 July 2014.
During the course of day and evening sessions, the OWG concluded its discussions on the revised zero draft of the “Introduction and Proposed Goals and Targets on Sustainable Development for the post-2015 Development Agenda,” namely the following proposed goals:
 15: Protect and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, halt desertification, land degradation and biodiversity loss
16: Achieve peaceful and inclusive societies, access to justice for all, and effective and capable institutions
17: Strengthen the means of implementation and the global partnership for sustainable development
Co-Chairs Macharia Kamau, Permanent Representative of Kenya, and Csaba Kőrösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary, announced that on Wednesday delegates would have a new revised draft of all of the goals, targets, and chapeau, which will serve as the basis for negotiations during the final three days of the OWG. They said the Group would first discuss all goal headings, with an aim to finalize them before moving to each target. They also stressed the meaning of consensus, urging that when delegations can live with something, they should “let it be.”
