The plenary convened at 11 am, to discuss and adopt recommendations on mechanisms for participation, sui generis systems, ethical code and work programme. The plenary also discussed and adopted views on the international ABS regime, for transmission to the ABS Working Group. The meeting was gavelled to a close at 5:05 pm.

Thursday, 5 November 2009

Delegates met in plenary in the afternoon, to discuss draft resolutions on sui generis systems, the ethical code and the work programme. The contact group on the international ABS regime met throughout the day, addressing a Co-Chairs’ text in the morning, and a conference room paper containing a revised Co-Chairs’ text in the afternoon and evening.

Wednesday, 4 November 2009

Delegates met in plenary in the afternoon, to hear reports from the contact groups and address a draft recommendation on mechanisms for participation. The contact group on the international ABS regime met throughout the day, discussing each of the questions addressed by the expert groups on traditional knowledge and on compliance. The contact group on the work programme convened in the afternoon and evening to discuss a Co-Chairs’ text.

Delegates met in plenary in the morning, to exchange views on the international ABS regime and discuss the Article 8(j) work programme, and again briefly in the afternoon. The contact group on the ethical code of conduct met throughout the day, while a newly established contact group on the work programme convened in the afternoon.

Monday, 2 November 2009

The sixth meeting of the Ad hoc Open-ended Intersessional Working Group on Article 8(j) and related provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) opened in Montreal, Canada, on Monday 2 November 2009. Delegates first met in plenary. They attended an indigenous welcoming ceremony and addressed: mechanisms for participation, sui generis systems for the protection of traditional knowledge, and the ethical code of conduct. A contact group on the ethical code was established and commenced its work in the afternoon.
