Eighteenth meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna
and Flora (CITES) Plants Committee

17-21 March 2009 | Buenos Aires, Argentina

Daily Highlights, Friday 20 March 2009
L-R: PC Chair Margarita Clemente (Spain) and David Morgan (CITES Secretariat) discuss the best way to proceed with the busy agenda.
The PC met in plenary most of the day to introduce the remainder of the PC18 documents. In the morning, the PC heard reports on regional activities, the PC/AC transport working group and trade in Agavaceae. For the rest of the day, the PC heard and discussed working group reports. They adopted a variety of recommendations, including on: not using source code 'R' for plant species; maintaining Decisions 14.133 and 14.134 related to Orchid annotations; and prolonging the work of the Bigleaf Mahogany Working Group, widening its mandate to include cedar and rosewood. PC Chair Clemente adjourned the plenary session just after 5:00 pm, allowing for the Working Group on cedar to continue its discussions.
L-R: Maria Tonelli and Victoria Lichtschein (Argentina)
L-R: Milena Schmidt (CITES Secretariat); and North America representative Robert Gabel (US) consult during the morning coffee break.
L-R: Ken Farr and Adrianne Sinclair (Canada) consult on timber species.
Fragata Sarmiento is docked on the Río de la Plata, just outside the conference venue.
