Fifty-seventh meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Standing Committee

Highlights for Friday, 18 July 2008
On Friday, SC57 met in working groups in the morning and in plenary in the afternoon to address the remaining agenda items, including: national reports; cooperation between parties and promotion of multilateral measures; bigleaf mahogany; and ramin.

Delegates also concluded discussions on financial matters and the Strategic Vision. SC Chair Maquieira gaveled the meeting to a close at 6:06 pm.

The delegation of Iceland listens attentively to the discussions in the informal meeting of the introduction from the sea working group on Friday morning.
The delegation of Mexico listens to discussions on Bigleaf Mahogany.
Delegates meet informally to discuss Prunus africana, especially in Cameroon and Tanzania.
Maitê de Souza Schmitz, Brazil, underscores that its policy on mahogany is internationally recognized as a model for others in the region.
Sikina Jinnah, ENB writer, and Patrick Omondi, Kenya, discuss elephant issues.
PC Chair Clemente and Mbarga Narcisse Lambert, Cameroon, talk about Prunus africana issues.
The delegation of France take a small break before afternoon plenary starts.
