IPCC Briefs Delegates in Bonn
On Saturday, contact groups and informal consultations were held on a variety of issues, including: the Adaptation Fund; arrangements for intergovernmental meetings; the budget for 2008-2009; deforestation; Decision 1/CP.10 (Buenos Aires programme of work on adaptation and response measures); privileges and immunities; and research and systematic observation. In addition, an IPCC briefing took place outlining the contributions of the three Working Groups to the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4).

Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer and IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri welcomed delegates and gave introductory statements, with Renate Christ, IPCC Secretariat, moderating.

Martin Manning presented WG I findings on observations and drivers of climate change.

Peter Stott presented WG I findings on causes of past climate change and projections of future change.
|

Jean Palutikof presented an overview of the WG II report.
|

Guy Midgley presented WG II findings on impacts on food, fiber and forests.

Contact Groups
|

Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer and Chair Paul Watkinson during the contact group on privileges and immunities for individuals serving on constituted bodies established under the Kyoto Protocol.

Thelma Krug, Brazil, conferred with Co-Chairs Hernán Carlino, Argentina, and Audun Rosland, Norway, during the contact group on reducing emissions from deforestation in developing countries.

Delegates wore Balinese headgear during informal consultations on capacity building.
