Fifteenth Session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-15)

30 April - 11 May 2007 | United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States of America

Highlights for Friday, 11 May 2007
Since key issues in the energy and climate change sections of the text remained unresolved until late on Friday afternoon, the Chair produced his compromise text which he presented to delegates on a “take it or leave it” basis. Delegations were given 45 minutes to consult and cautioned that if they rejected the text, the only outcome from CSD-15 would be a Chair’s Summary to be published a week later.

"Take it or leave it!"

The US noted that a negotiated decision text is not the only measure of success. The EU rejected the text as it neither addresses the identified challenges nor meets world expectations. The G-77/China accepted the text, but noted that the procedure followed must not set a precedent for future sessions.

Francis Nema, Zimbabwe, was elected CSD-16 Chair by secret ballot
