Asia and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) on Rio+20 Outcomes

Highlights for Tuesday, 23 April 2013
The Asia and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting on Rio+20 Outcomes, convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), continued today in Bangkok, Thailand. In the morning, a panel discussion convened on means of implementation (MOI) with the following panelists: Tariq Banuri, University of Utah and former Director of the Division for Sustainable Development, DESA; Feri Guanco Lumampao, Executive Director, Approtech Asia; Dino Vega, Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Chair Chhun, Ministry of Environment, Cambodia; and Keobang Keola, Ministry of Natural Resources, Lao PDR. This was followed by statements from countries and Major Groups on MOI. 

Peseta Noumea Simi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Samoa, then gave a presentation on the sustainable development of Pacific SIDS and the Third International Conference on SIDS. Countries, Major Groups and international organizations then made statements on the follow up to Rio+20, addressing national and regional priorities for increasing the integration of the three pillars of sustainable development, thematic areas and potential regional mechanisms for implementation, and the role of the ESCAP Secretariat and the UN system.

A Chair’s summary will be distributed on Wednesday morning for consideration by delegates in an afternoon plenary session.
