The Asia and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) on Rio+20 Outcomes will meet from 22-24 April 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand, and is being convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The RIM is expected to discuss regional perspectives on global processes resulting from Rio+20, such as the establishment of a High Level Political Forum to replace the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), and the development of sustainable development goals (SDGs) through the Open Ended Group on SDGs. The RIM will also identify regional follow up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), and representatives of governments, civil society, business, and international organizations will participate in the meeting. A number of side events will also be held.
Specific topics that will be addressed during the meeting include: main outcomes of Rio+20 and implications for the region; lessons learned from the CSD, status of global processes and the way forward; the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development, including global and regional dimensions; SDGs and the post-2015 development agenda; presentation of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production; presentation of the ADB’s support for green growth; means of implementation, a sustainable development financing strategy and technology development and transfer; and sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific small island developing states (SIDS) and the Third International Conference on SIDS.
This meeting is one in a series of meeting organized by the UN regional commissions. Meetings in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Europe have already taken place, and a further meeting is scheduled to take place for Western Asia at the end of May.
