The Asia and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting on Rio+20 Outcomes, convened by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), continued today in Bangkok, Thailand. In the morning a Chair’s summary was distributed for delegates to review. In the afternoon, a plenary session was held. Delegates made comments to the Chair’s summary, and debated the action that should be taken on the summary, and how it should be forwarded as a contribution to global processes. Many delegates supported adopting the summary, while the Russian Federation and others preferred “recognizing” the summary, emphasizing that it is not a negotiated text. The Secretariat stressed that an outcome must be adopted in order for the meeting to conclude. Following informal consultations, delegates agreed to annex the Chair’s summary to the meeting report, which was adopted. The meeting adjourned at 5:12 pm.
During the day, a side event was also convened by UNEP on the 10-Year Framework of Programmes (on Sustainable Consumption and Production, and solutions to sustainable development challenges for Asia and the Pacific.
