The Forty-fifth session of the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) and the Associated Sessions of the four Committees (Finance and Administration; Economic Information and Market Intelligence; Forest Industry; and Reforestation and Forest Management) entered its second day of discussions today in Yokohama, Japan. In the morning, delegates convened in a Joint Committee Session, and discussed ex post evaluations of several projects, and the Expert Review Panel. Subsequently, the Council met to discuss the Biennial Work Programme. At lunch, the Civil Society Advisory Group held an event on tropical forest tenure.
In the afternoon, all four Committees met separately. The CRF discussed agenda items related to policy work, including: ITTO’s activities related to global wildland fire issues; IUCN and ITTO's collaborative work to develop advice for implementing the ITTO Guidelines for Restoration, Management and Rehabilitation of Degraded and Secondary Tropical Forests; progress in the application of criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management; revision of guidelines on sustainable management of tropical forests; and encouraging and increasing the involvement of non-government stakeholders in ITTO's activities. The CFA met to discuss the status of the administrative account, and the biennial budget for 2010-2011, including the costs of holding the next ITTC session in Guatemala, as agreed at ITTC44. The CEM-CFI met to discuss completed projects and pre-projects, and to review projects, pre-projects and activities in progress.
In the evening, a contact group met to discuss the Biennial Work
Programme for 2010-2011.
